Who Is Columbina?
Columbina is the original love in the forbidden love story that drives the circus's history. The game pointedly insists that the protagonist is not her. Her name means "little dove" in Italian, and in the Japanese version she is named Nezumino (根津蓑). She says she comes from a place far away and uses the word "obrigada" — Portuguese for "thank you" — which ties her to the Doctor's use of Portuguese and hints at shared origins.
The Naming Easter Egg
Sources: In-game naming easter egg (community-verified)
If you name your protagonist "Columbina" at the start of the game, a hidden animation is triggered. It is one of the game's known easter eggs and a small nod to how closely the story ties the protagonist to Columbina's memory — even while insisting they are not the same person.
Spoilers — Her Role in the Tragedy
Spoilers: Columbina and the forbidden love story
In the forbidden love story the Jester narrates in Day 2, Columbina is the woman both Pierrot and Harlequin loved. Harlequin killed her out of jealousy, while Pierrot was the only "monster" who did not devour her. Community discussion suggests she may have been the one truly married to Pierrot, though that specific claim is unconfirmed. Her death is the wound the present-day story keeps circling back to.
